This Week @Minnesota: Top 10 of 2011-2012 (by UniversityofMinn)
The Summer Music Festival at Northrop (SMFN), previously called Summer at Northrop, is a free, outdoor summer concert series featuring well-known local musicians and DJs, alongside U of M student bands as a way to support our University talent. We work with local musicians and an energetic Student Advisory Committee (a team of volunteer, motivated, music and PR savvy U of M students) to curate the series. The line-up is an eclectic taste of everything from hip-hop, dance music, singer-songwriter, folk, Latin, and spoken word.

Small World Coffee Hour, from the International Student and Scholar Services website: “Small World Coffee Hour (SWCH) gives all international and US students, staff and faculty the opportunity to meet with each other in a relaxing environment and to learn about other cultures and traditions around the world. SWCH events are free and take place every other Friday from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Approximately 200 people attend each event, so come join us in the fun!
Every event features a different theme, various activities, lively music and an array of wonderful foods related to that theme. Numerous nationality organizations add flavor to SWCH through demonstrating and explaining a slice of their culture or traditions. To name a few, we’ve enjoyed an Iranian New Year Celebration, a Japanese and Middle Eastern Festival, a Chinese Moon Festival, a Latin Dance theme and Halloween Celebration.”
It is a beautiful sunny Friday today at the university. Spring Jam was going on and food was distributed. Just like usual, the line was really long. Thank goodness we have SG’s Small World Coffee Hour. Happy Friday (back to school, yeah)
